Labour Day BBQ

EDLC Labour Day BBQ for the Unemployed and Underemployed

Monday, September 5, 2016

The Edmonton and District Labour Council will be holding its 27th Annual Labour Day Barbecue for the Unemployed and Underemployed this year on Monday September 5, 2016 at Giovanni Caboto Park from 11:30 AM –3:30 p.m. They need your help!
“The EDLC Labour Day BBQ is significant in many ways. It provides those less fortunate with an afternoon of free food and entertainment and in 2015 over 4,000 people attended. The barbeque is also an opportunity for employed workers to share with those who have not been as fortunate in gaining or keeping adequate employment. Given the economic reality of the day we are expecting a large turnout in 2016. In recent years we have expanded the BBQ by including more family orientated aspects to the day including, bouncy castles, face painting, kids crafts, free books and as always live music.
We are seeking volunteers to help us put on the BBQ. We have many areas that we will need help including, food preparation, set-up and tear down, kids activities, park cleanup, unloading of supplies and other general duties. In order that the BBQ functions smoothly we ask that all volunteers signup prior to arriving at the park to have a clear understanding of the numbers of expected volunteers.

Please go to https://www.volunteersignup.org/FY73R for the volunteer sign up page.

Postal Banking: Paying out to the Public Good

Postal Food Bank Flyer-1
As Canada Post continues to refuse to explore new revenue streams in negotiations, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers is looking to show how postal banking is a “win-win strategy” (censored 2013 Canada Post Report) for both the corporation and the Canadian people. To help illustrate how CUPW can continue to serve Canadians we are holding a non-perishable food drive for another bank that thinks of people before profits, the Edmonton Food Bank. We are encouraging members, allied groups, and the concerned public to come out and donate a non-perishable food item to the Edmonton Food Bank.

On August 23 between 2:00 – 6:00 pm CUPW will be holding an information rally and food drop off point at the Edmonton Mail Processing Plant (12135 149 Street).

Our President Larry Dionne (contact information below) will speak to the media at 3:15 pm regarding the event and ongoing negotiations. He will be available for questions and comments throughout the event.

We look forward to seeing you there and in your help getting this very important information out for public consideration in the midst of these unproductive negotiations.
